Le Traité
Stylish accessory maker. An American brand, using a French name to honour the dual nationality of one of the founders. Employees can lose their jobs if they misspell the name as 'La Traité'.
Among other things, they make a range of briefcases with a reputation for both style and resilience. Many of their offerings include a lifetime care package which includes oiling and rebalancing of their patented 28-piece Lisseglide™ hinge mechanism once a year. Some of their models have the date of manufacture engraved on the back of the latches. Others have a built in pocket where a pocketwatch can be clipped in so that it becomes part of the left lock-plate. They are available in leather, imitation leather, imitation snakeskin, and fine canvas.
Caused something of a stir in certain circles in 2012, when their Pride Month promotion used the tagline "the rainbow has infinite colours" to imply that all lifestyle choices are valid. Their cases sold in this period were stained all the colours of the rainbow; a spectrum of 144 hues, all of them dark enough to look like black until you put them next to an actual black briefcase.
